COVID-19

Jim Hogg County ISD is closely monitoring COVID-19 with the guidance of our local health department, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19).  We encourage our families to use the following resources to stay informed about the latest news regarding the virus.

JHCISD Status

There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in JHCISD.

Any decisions about school closure or school events will be made in coordination with health officials and district administration.  The district is prepared and has specific plans should that status change.  If this does change, parents and guardians can expect a phone call from the district.

Prevention

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.  CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases.  Take steps to protect yourself:

Clean your hands often

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for  at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not available, use a hand-sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.  Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid Close Contact

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Put distance between yourself and other people
  • Take Steps to Protect Others
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow
  • Throw used tissues in the trash
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Wear a facemask if you are sick
  • Clean and disinfect touched objects and surfaces daily using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
